Violet Anderson

Stitcher, New Hampshire

Violet Anderson is an embroiderer on the New Hampshire tapestry panel. A resident of Manchester, she has been stitching for over 60 years. Having learned by watching her mother and grandmother before going on to study through college classes in occupational therapy and membership in both EGA and ANG, Violet's prior needle arts practice is exceptionally broad, encompassing beading, cross stitch, canvaswork or needlepoint, counted work, goldwork and other metal threads, pulled and drawn thread embroidery, surface embroidery including crewel and raised embroidery, and crochet. While working on the panel, Violet has utilized the split stitch and long-and-short stitch. Violet was drawn to the project by her combined love of history and stitching. While working on the panel, she has learned about the Pine Tree Rebellion, Paul Revere's lesser-known ride to Exeter, New Hampshire, the patriotic significance of drinking hot chocolate during the Revolution, and the pivotal role New Hampshire residents played in supplying powder and cannons for the Battle of Bunker Hill. Violet is looking forward to our nation's anniversary.
