Randy Maynor
Stitcher, Georgia
Randy Maynor is an embroiderer on the Georgia tapestry panel. Randy has enjoyed embroidery most of her life, from childhood — where she secretly suspects her mother was just trying to keep her out of the way at times — to the present. Through EGA, she has learned many types of embroidery including counted cross stitch, blackwork, canvas, and Japanese embroidery, as well as flat and 3D beading. The camaraderie of embroidery and the lifelong learning it offers has made her life fun. Working on America's Tapestry has been wonderful — a chance to collaborate with others and remain open to new ways of thinking. Most projects come with a guide for where to put each stitch; this one was left to the group to decide how to complete. The openness was scary at first but became a true learning experience. Knowing that something she has worked on will be appreciated by many people during and after completion has encouraged Randy to think outside the box. The Georgia tapestry team had access to the Atlanta History Center to work on this project.
