Maureen Farrell
Stitcher, Delaware
Maureen Farrell is an embroiderer on the Delaware tapestry panel. A resident of Dagsboro, DE, she has been stitching for over 50 years. Having learned embroidery from her mother at age 13, Maureen has practiced cross stitch and counted work. While working on the panel, Maureen has utilized cross stitch and the Smyrna cross. The latter is a particular favorite because of the texture and dimension it adds. Having moved to Delaware in 2018, Maureen has become inspired by America's Tapestry to learn more about the history of the state. After retiring in June 2025, Maureen was looking for a project to be involved with in order to celebrate the nation's 250th anniversary. After discovering America's Tapestry, Maureen saw this as an opportunity to create a legacy artwork for future generations through her hobby of needlework. Since joining the Delaware team, she has told her family, friends, and anyone who will listen about the project. She is delighted that through her participation in America's Tapestry, she herself has become part of the project's history. As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, Maureen hopes that we remember the struggles of our ancestors and the dreams they fought for. She hopes that we will carry on the American dream by working together and seeking unity over division.
