Lisa Duffin

Stitcher, Virginia

Lisa Duffin is an embroiderer on the Virginia tapestry panel. A resident of Toano, Virginia, she has been stitching for over 50 years, having learned to embroider as a child from her paternal grandmother — a love of all kinds of handwork and sewing that has grown from there into a true passion that brings her great joy and peace. Lisa's prior needle arts practice includes cross stitch, knitting, sewing, quilting, and wool appliqué. While working on the panels, Lisa focused primarily on stitching grass, utilizing the satin stitch as her main stitch throughout. Lisa was inspired to join America's Tapestry by a desire to make a contribution to the celebration of our nation's 250th birthday while sharing her love of needlework. She brings a particularly personal connection to the project as a resident of Virginia's Historic Triangle — the region encompassing Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown — and a lifelong appreciation for its deep ties to the founding of our nation.
