Karen Schueler
Stitcher, Delaware
Karen Schueler is an embroiderer on the Delaware tapestry panel. A resident of Newark, she has been stitching for over 40 years. Having learned embroidery through a London City and Guilds program available in Oxford, U.K., she has practiced quilting, surface embroidery including crewel, and raised embroidery. While working on the Delaware panel, Karen has utilized self couching on the sails of the ship and different varieties of cross-stitch. Having moved to the First State 18 years ago, Karen has deeply enjoyed the local interest in gardening and nature. As America celebrates 250 years, Karen hopes that civic organizations continue to remain an important aspect in American life.
