Stitchers

Heidi Levesque is an embroiderer on the New Hampshire tapestry panel. A resident of Methuen, Massachusetts, she has been stitching for over 40 years, having learned by watching her mother and grandmother. Heidi's prior needle arts practice includes cross stitch, quilting including piecework and appliqué, and crochet. While working on the panels, Heidi has utilized the stab stitch — her favorite — as well as the blanket stitch and reverse blanket stitch, the latter of which she describes as a real brain workout! Heidi was welcomed into the project by Carol and the New Hampshire team, who graciously shared their knowledge and expertise with her. She has since learned a great deal about the history depicted across the panels she has worked on. Looking towards our nation's anniversary, Heidi hopes that people recognize our differences as our strengths, that democracy endures, and that freedom means freedom for all.
