Millyard Museum

America's Tapestry comes to the Millyard Museum in Manchester, New Hampshire, from January to April 2027, one stop on a national tour of the thirteen original colonies. The collection is a series of thirteen needlework tapestries, one for each colony, depicting each colony's history and its road to independence — stitched by some 2,000 volunteers to mark the nation's 250th anniversary. The tour opened at the Muscarelle Museum of Art at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, in June 2026, and now travels north through the states whose stories these panels tell.

The Millyard Museum, run by the Manchester Historic Association, occupies one of the renovated brick buildings of the Amoskeag Millyard — home to the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, which grew over roughly a century into the largest textile manufacturer in the world before its looms fell silent in 1935. The New Hampshire panel was fabricated on this site from June 2025 to April 2026.

New Hampshire has its own claim on this story: it is home to one of the thirteen panels. The state was early to the cause of independence, staging some of the Revolution's first acts of defiance and, in January 1776, becoming the first colony to adopt its own written constitution — six months before the Declaration. America's Tapestry's New Hampshire panel gathers exactly these threads, from the 1772 Pine Tree Riot to the 1774 raid on Fort William and Mary, whose seized powder later served at Bunker Hill. To see it on view in Manchester is to see the colony's history where it happened.
